Laser Tattoo Removal with the Latest Laser Technology

Want to remove an unwanted tattoo or lighten it for a cover-up? At Removee in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, we treat tattoos with the latest laser technology. Before the treatment, we take a close look at the colours, size, your skin type and your starting point and tell you honestly what is realistic.

We have been doing tattoo removal for more than ten years. Here you’ll find answers to the most important questions about the process, the intervals between sessions and possible skin reactions – and our prices per session (from €90). In the free initial consultation, you get a personal assessment of your tattoo.

Tattoo Lightening for Cover-ups

For a successful cover-up, your tattoo doesn’t always have to be removed completely. Often it is enough to lighten individual areas or the whole design in a targeted way. If you like, we can also coordinate the treatment with the tattoo studio you trust.

At our studio in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, we have been working with tattoo removal lasers since 2016. With more than ten years of experience, we can realistically assess your starting point and how the treatment is likely to go. Tattoo studios are also welcome to contact us about working together.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tattoo Removal

First of all: laser treatment is the most modern method for removing tattoos and the primary method indicated in all cases.

We use the latest laser technology, which delivers very high-energy but extremely short pulses into the skin. These pass through normal skin but are absorbed by pigments of all kinds. When they hit a dark pigment that was deposited in the skin during tattooing, the pigment absorbs all of the energy and breaks down. You can even hear this breakdown: there is a small popping sound.

The fragments have completely different properties from the original molecule and are usually colourless. The body recognises them as foreign matter, and the immune system breaks them down and carries them away. The laser treatment immediately turns the skin white and is carried out with cooling to make the treatment gentler and more effective.

The physics behind laser tattoo removal: white light, such as sunlight or electric light, is a mixture of light of different colours, each with a specific wavelength.

Pigments look coloured because they take in (absorb) light of certain wavelengths and reflect the rest. When they absorb light of a certain colour, they normally heat up only very slightly. The light that is not absorbed is reflected and becomes visible to the eye in the complementary colours of the absorbed wavelengths. Anything that has a colour only has it because it absorbs the complementary colours of its visible colour and reflects the rest of the colour spectrum.

With the laser, we irradiate the pigments with light of exactly the colour they absorb. Because the pigment suddenly takes in a great deal of light (= energy), it heats up and is chemically altered. In most cases, the heating causes the molecules to split, i.e. to shatter. These fragments are then so small that they can no longer reflect light.

That is why we use four different wavelengths: 532 nm, 585 nm, 650 nm or 1064 nm, depending on which colour is to be removed.

That depends on so many factors that you should definitely come to the studio for a free consultation first. Based on all our experience with tattoo removal, we can say that we practically always get the ink out. But there is no guarantee that the whole procedure won’t leave scarring in the end.

The problem is that your skin goes through quite a lot:

  • First, a needle punctures it all over, more or less deeply.
  • Then a completely non-specific ink is injected into the deep layers of the skin – ink that is neither standardised nor pharmaceutically tested.
  • Finally, it is treated several times with a laser that heats the pigments intensely and “blasts” them apart.
  • Then it has to somehow “digest” the fragments and carry them away, even though it has already been damaged several times.

You should be aware that afterwards your skin can no longer be as innocently delicate as it was in your childhood. On the contrary: it is quite an achievement if it gets through all of this without scarring.

How traceless the tattoo removal will be depends on many different factors, especially your skin type, where the tattoo is, how deep it is and its colours. That is why we need the initial consultation, where we first take a close look at your tattoo. There we can also see whether the skin may already be scarred from the tattooing. A good tattoo artist usually works deep, but without scarring the skin.

Only after the first three sessions can we say with some certainty what the final result will be.

Fortunately, the skin is an organ with a great capacity to regenerate, and in the end it depends on your lifestyle whether it gets through the tattooing and the tattoo removal without scars. A healthy diet and few toxins such as alcohol or cigarette smoke help it to become well supplied with blood, healthy, soft and sensitive again.

Most tattoos need several sessions. Depending on the factors mentioned – colour, colour intensity and skin type – you can expect about eight sessions for amateur or organic tattoos, which are usually not as deep, and more than ten sessions for deep professional tattoos. In individual cases, up to 20 sessions may be needed.

Because the body always needs time to heal the skin, restore its blood supply and carry away the fragments, we recommend an interval of 6–8 weeks between sessions.

Here, too: after the first three sessions, we can already estimate quite well how many sessions you will need in total.

Having a tattoo removed hurts about as much as getting it. Some clients report more pain than when they got the tattoo, some less. We work with high-quality, modern devices that reduce the pain to what is necessary, and we know how to use them. Based on the initial consultation, we make an individual assessment of intolerances, hypersensitivities and possible allergies and, if you wish, also offer pain-relieving measures in the form of homeopathic or pharmaceutical remedies.

You should avoid strong sun exposure and tanning beds as much as possible. The reason is that the skin then produces its own pigments, which get in the way of the laser or even absorb part of the energy themselves. So you should not expose the tattooed area to strong sunlight for at least 2 weeks before the laser treatment. On tanned skin, tattoo removal takes longer and can also cause more side effects.

After the laser treatment, give your skin some time to heal. During this time, you should not swim or take baths, avoid sun exposure and tanning beds, and not do strength training for the muscles under the tattoo. Your skin simply needs rest and time to heal so that no scars form. If you’re out in the sun, cover the tattoo with clothing or at least with sunblock.

For the reasons mentioned above, skin that is repeatedly put under heavy strain and injured can form scars. Fortunately, in most cases this does not happen. If you carefully follow the rules for what to do before and after the treatment, you improve your skin’s chances of regenerating completely after the tattoo removal.

Immediately after the laser treatment, redness, mild burns and, in the worst case, blisters are possible. Depending on your skin type and the location and type of tattoo, the treated area may weep and, just like with tattooing, bleed a little. Swelling can be another side effect. If you take proper care of your skin for two to three days after the session, all symptoms subside again – just like after getting a tattoo.

The extremely short pulse duration of our laser minimises side effects.

Yes, but there are differences. Normal blue-black is the easiest to remove; for this we use the 1064 nm wavelength. Red colours also come off well; for these we use the 532 nm wavelength. Sky blue is removed with the 585 nm wavelength, and green is best treated with 650 nm.

Metallic colours and light colours such as light yellow, white or skin tones don’t respond quite as well. We often have to treat them a little longer before they are gone.

Yes, on the eyebrows and the lips that’s no problem. However, we advise against treating the eyelids. Removing permanent make-up and microblading on the eyebrows currently costs €119 per session (fixed price), on the lips €139 per session (fixed price). Yes, since 2021 laser tattoo removal in Germany may only be performed by doctors with additional training and by specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery. For laser tattoo removal, Removee has been working with experienced specialists for a long time. Currently this is Dr. Simas Navardauskas, a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery.

We have had very good results in removing skin discolouration caused by injuries. This includes, for example, discolouration after grazes or improperly done piercings. Pigment is pigment – the laser doesn’t care how exactly it got into the skin. Just book a free, no-obligation consultation, and we’ll take it from there.

That depends on the tattoo, of course. How many colours does it contain? How intense is the colour? Above all, the size of the tattoo matters. So it’s like getting a tattoo: small, simple tattoos are quicker than large, elaborate ones. A session usually takes between 10 and 60 minutes.

We are one of the most affordable providers of professional laser tattoo removal in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area. That is because most comparably equipped competitors belong to national franchise chains and have to pay considerable fees to their franchisors. We are independent and don’t pay fees to anyone.

If you notice studios in prime locations on expensive shopping streets, keep in mind that they finance their high rents through your fees. For us, results are what count. Here in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, right at Frankfurt’s Südbahnhof (South Station), we have a very central location and even offer our own customer parking. But because we remove tattoos and offer permanent laser hair removal in an old workshop building, our costs are different.

The best way to book the free initial consultation is through our online booking tool “Terminland” (the booking page is in German – as a new customer, please choose “Tattooentfernung – Kostenloses und unverbindliches Beratungsgespräch” at the top). During the initial consultation, we can already do a free test treatment on a small area to check how your skin reacts – this is not yet a full treatment. Then we agree on a price per session.

You can find our price list further down on this page. With our prices, we are one of the most affordable providers of professional tattoo removal in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. All prices include 19% VAT and apply to one session. We accept common credit cards, debit cards (EC cards) and cash.

Online booking is one of the ways we keep our prices low, because we simply spend less time on the phone and more time removing tattoos with the laser.

We don’t sell complete packages, subscriptions or flat rates, as is common with many other laser tattoo removal providers. So if you want to stop or pause the treatment at Removee, you don’t lose any money.

If you pay for several sessions in advance, you get a discount on the price per session: 10% for 3 sessions, 15% for 5 sessions and 20% for 10 sessions.

We are already one of the most affordable providers of all. But social responsibility matters a lot to us.

Do you receive citizen’s income (Bürgergeld) or basic income support or other state benefits, or are you in need for another reason and looking for work? Does your clearly visible tattoo on your face, neck or hands put off every potential employer, and you don’t dare go to a job interview? Talk to us. Depending on your situation, we help in genuine emergencies (but only in well-founded cases) with generous discounts, up to free treatment.

We use state-of-the-art Nd:YAG lasers that are regularly serviced under the manufacturer’s supervision. Nd:YAG lasers are currently the most proven technology on the market. We have tried other types of lasers too, but have always come back to our YAG lasers.

Other providers work with outdated laser types and cheap no-name devices. Others, who work with so-called “pico lasers”, promise comparable results with half the number of sessions.

Given the huge variety of possible cases – the combination of skin type, depth of the tattoo, age of the tattoo, colours used, type of ink and so on – such promises can be written off as “advertising”. It’s better not to rely on them.

Some providers who use so-called “latest-generation lasers” (e.g. “pico lasers”) charge, as far as we know, usually three to five times as much per session as a treatment with the Nd:YAG laser, but in simple cases save only about half the time, if at all.

We tend to advise against chemical treatments (injecting chemicals) and mechanical-abrasive treatments (removing the skin surface). We have seen several clients who underwent such “treatments” by licensed doctors and looked worse afterwards than before. We expressly warn against DIY home remedies, which are increasingly found on video platforms.

At Removee, you pay per session. The price depends mainly on the size, colours, colour density and nature of the tattoo: from €90–105 for a small tattoo (about the size of a €2 coin, approx. 5 cm²) to €350–410 for a large design (about the size of an LP record). All prices include 19% VAT.

Expect around 7–10 sessions – depending on the colour, the age of the tattoo and other details, it may be fewer or more. After the first three sessions, we can already estimate this quite well. We don’t offer complete packages or subscriptions – you pay per session. If you pay for several sessions in advance, you save 10–20%. We set the exact price in the free initial consultation. You can find all prices at a glance on our prices page.

Yes. With many older laser systems, treating dark skin was problematic – with our modern laser technology, we also treat dark skin. We look at how your skin reacts in the free initial consultation – with a free test treatment on a small area if you like.
