Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal

In our experience, there are hardly any restrictions. This means we can remove facial hair such as a female moustache, just like hair in the bikini area. Complete removal of pubic hair is no problem either – for men and women alike. Hair removal with IPL/SHR light and diode laser works all over the body, because all body hair is basically formed according to the same principles.

Basically, yes. The hair roots are permanently destroyed and will never form hair again. This has been proven by long-term studies. Even after the first session, there is a clear and lasting hair removal effect on the treated body area. However, the hair removal is not yet complete. One session never reaches all hair roots, because they can only be destroyed at a certain stage, when they are active. That is why you need 8–10 sessions on average for a good result.

In addition, completely new hair roots can always form. This applies to all methods, whether IPL/SHR, diode laser or other methods and devices. There is no method that completely rules out new hair growth in the future, and providers who promise this are not reputable.

Clients who tend to have particularly strong body hair in particular come back now and then after a successful treatment to remove newly formed hair roots. In any case, after the treatment such clients always have much, much less hair than before.

For complete hair removal, about 6–10 sessions are usually enough, depending on the body area. There are big differences depending on your wishes, your skin and hair type and the body area.

Some background: hair grows in 3 phases:

  • In the anagen phase, the hair grows and can also be removed with light.
  • The catagen phase is a transition phase between the growth phase and the resting phase.
  • The telogen phase is the resting phase, in which the hair does not grow. At the end of this phase, the hair falls out. In this phase, the hair root cannot be destroyed with IPL/SHR or diode laser treatment.
  • Once the hair has fallen out, the follicle returns to the anagen phase and forms a new hair.

Depending on where the hair grows – scalp, beard, eyebrows, pubic hair, etc. – these phases last different lengths of time. What is clear, however, is that the hair root can only be permanently destroyed in the anagen phase. This means that each session with IPL/SHR or diode laser only reaches a certain percentage of the hair follicles.

After the treatment, the hairs then fall out within the next 10–20 days.

The colour of the hair also plays a role. Treatment during the anagen phase is so successful because the hairs then have a particularly large amount of pigment and are still firmly connected to the growth cells in the follicle.

In principle, permanent hair removal therefore works somewhat better on dark hair than on lighter hair. With light blonde or grey hair, it sometimes doesn’t work at all. For lighter hair or very dark skin, we recommend a free test treatment as part of the free initial consultation to test how well the methods work and how your skin and hair react. The test treatment is done on a small area. If you like, we can also treat the whole area right at your first appointment – that is then a regular, paid session.

There are also differences in effectiveness with IPL/SHR treatment, just as with laser hair removal using the diode laser, which can partly be explained individually by hormonal status, ethnic background, medication and age.

With hormonal changes, for example during pregnancy or menopause, and with particular genetic predispositions, there is sometimes a particularly high formation of new hair follicles. However, this does not apply to the vast majority of clients.

The vast majority of clients are practically hair-free after the end of the treatment and can throw away their epilators.

Based on our experience, we recommend an interval of 4–12 weeks. If someone promises you shorter intervals between treatments, remember that the intervals are determined by the growth phases of the hair follicles. They are completely independent of the method or a particular device. Such promises fall into the category of “advertising promises” and are not reputable. Scientific studies show that shorter intervals between treatments do not lead to the promised success.

Yes, but not longer than 6 months. Otherwise, hair roots that were damaged but not yet completely destroyed during hair removal could regenerate.

With hair removal by light, every follicle has to be reached. So how long the hair removal takes depends on the size of the treated area. We treat a female moustache in about 10 minutes, the legs in about an hour, and for full-body hair removal you should expect a treatment time of 2–3 hours with the diode laser or IPL/SHR. Compared with other providers, we save a lot of time (and costs) because we don’t shave beforehand.

We use IPL/SHR devices and diode lasers of the latest design. This is gentler and less painful than most classic lasers.

Our devices were purchased in Germany and are fully EU-certified. After years of experience, we decided on the latest generation of tech4beauty touchfree devices, which are constantly checked and serviced by the manufacturer. Unlike many other high-quality IPL/SHR studio devices and diode lasers, these devices can also successfully treat light hair types with laser or IPL/SHR.

Removee is a member of the professional association Deutsche Gesellschaft für EU-Konformität e.V. (DEGEUK) and only purchases devices that meet the association’s standards.

At Removee, we let our results speak for us!

Hair removal with our diode laser and IPL/SHR devices is practically painless. The handpieces have a much larger surface than comparable devices. This means we can treat large areas much faster than providers with conventional smaller handpieces. In this way, we can shorten the average treatment time for a back from about an hour to just 20–30 minutes.

No. These methods are not permanent but rather temporary.

In the past, permanent hair removal with diode laser and IPL/SHR light often caused pain and redness. This is still the case with many of our competitors. We, on the other hand, use diode lasers and IPL/SHR devices of the most modern design, which at most cause a feeling of warmth or the occasional prick. And even that we can handle for very sensitive people by using our own cooling method.

The diameter of our handpiece is also about three times larger than that of other high-quality studio devices. So if it pricks, it definitely pricks three times less often than with the others.

Couperose, moles and rosacea can be treated with IPL/SHR light in certain cases. This requires a personal assessment at the studio.

Yes. We remove permanent make-up from eyebrows and lips with the latest laser technology. More about it on our page permanent make-up removal.

There are a few rules you can follow before your IPL/SHR hair removal appointment to get the best result:

  • In the 3 to 4 weeks before the session, you should not tan intensively, neither in the sun nor in a tanning bed. You’ll find out how much is fine in the free initial consultation at our studio in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen.
  • For at least two weeks beforehand, you should not remove the hair with other methods. So please don’t wax, pluck or epilate, and don’t use hair removal creams.
  • Please don’t bleach or lighten the hair to be removed for at least two weeks before the appointment.
  • Of course, you come freshly washed, and the areas to be treated should not have any make-up on them.
  • Help your skin by drinking enough non-alcoholic fluids.
  • Unlike with other providers, you don’t have to shave beforehand with us. With our diode laser and IPL/SHR devices, it is better if the hairs are a little visible, ideally about 0.5–1 mm long. Please make sure of this for the free consultation with the free test treatment too. After the session, most of the hair is gone, and you may shave again.
  • Because of their phototoxic effect, you must not have taken antibiotics or aspirin within the last 24 hours before the treatment.
  • Other medications also interact with light and increase sensitivity to light. These include, for example, antidepressants, especially those containing St John’s wort, certain antibiotics (doxycycline and others) and psychotropic drugs (phenothiazine).
  • Sun allergy or excessive sensitivity to light is a contraindication.
  • Further contraindications: pregnancy and taking blood thinners.
  • Laser and IPL/SHR hair removal on tattoos is critical. It’s best to clarify this in the free preliminary consultation.
  • We recognise unsuitable skin types and certain risk groups, such as heavy tanning bed users, and do not treat them.
  • Diabetes, haemophilia, skin cancer and some pigmentation disorders are also contraindications.

Usually you can’t see anything. We examine any redness or irritation carefully and then adjust the treatment plan accordingly. If necessary, we also stop the treatment – health comes first!

IPL/SHR is somewhat gentler than laser. However, our latest-design diode laser has similarly few side effects. Depending on your skin type, the skin may turn red during and after the treatment. However, the skin usually returns to normal after a few hours.

The specially developed cooling system makes the treatment almost completely painless. At most, you feel a slight pinch. Immediately after the treatment, there may be slight redness and slight swelling around the hair openings. These are symptoms of skin irritation caused by the intense light. They regularly subside on their own after a short time (usually a few hours).

In rare cases, usually only after treating dark or heavily tanned skin, a superficial burn occurs in which the top layer of skin forms a crust. This can also cause temporary hyper- or hypopigmentation. This means the affected areas of skin are temporarily darker or lighter than the surrounding skin.

Truly permanent hair removal can only be achieved by destroying the hair root – the so-called follicle.

IPL/SHR treatment strongly heats the pigment in the hair, the melanin. The heat is conducted through the hair down to the hair root, which is destroyed as a result.

An IPL device (IPL = intense pulsed light) produces short pulses of light at wavelengths of 645–950 nm, which destroy the cells that nourish the hair root. As a result, this hair root can no longer form new hairs.

The diode laser uses more focused light with a fixed wavelength, which can be more targeted and effective in some cases. From the point of view of conventional medicine, too, these technologies are the method of choice for permanent hair removal. Whether IPL/SHR light or the diode laser is better suited for you, we determine in the free initial consultation at our studio in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen.

The easiest way to book the free initial consultation is on our contact page. There you can leave us a message or, very conveniently, book an appointment that suits you yourself under “Book an appointment” using the Terminland tool (the booking page is in German – as a new customer, please choose “Haarentfernung – Kostenloses und unverbindliches Beratungsgespräch” at the top). In the initial consultation, we set the price per session for you. We accept payments with all common credit cards, debit cards (EC cards) and cash at the studio.

We are one of the most affordable providers of high-quality IPL/SHR hair removal and diode laser treatments on the market in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main area. That is because most comparably equipped competitors belong to national franchise chains and have to pay considerable fees to their franchisors. We are independent and don’t pay fees to anyone.

If you notice studios in prime locations on expensive shopping streets, keep in mind that they finance their high rents through your fees. For us, results are what count. Here in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, right at Südbahnhof (South Station), we have a very central location and even offer our own customer parking. But because we remove hair and tattoos in an old workshop building, our costs are different.

Bargain providers often use outdated devices or home devices and offer hair removal on the side in a nail or beauty salon or from home. Because permanent hair removal is only one of many services for these providers, they not only have unsuitable devices but also less experience than we do – it is our main focus alongside laser tattoo removal, and we have more than 10 years of experience. Some clients come to us burned by such bargain providers and can start from scratch with professional IPL/SHR treatment or diode laser hair removal.

Unfortunately, a high price doesn’t protect you from bad experiences either. Doctors should know what they are doing and advertise exactly that. Unfortunately, here too a medical practice only offers permanent hair removal as one of very many services, and it is usually not even carried out by the doctors themselves but by the practice staff. Burns sometimes happen here too, simply because of a lack of experience. Even if the doctor does the treatment personally, you should know that neither laser nor IPL/SHR hair removal is taught at medical school.
For successful hair removal and avoiding side effects, what matters is solely the experience of the practitioner and the quality of the IPL device.
That doesn’t mean that a good and experienced doctor with a good device can’t achieve very good results too. But they are usually much more expensive than with us.

There are no home-use alternatives to professional permanent hair removal. Feel free to try it if you don’t believe us. Some home devices do help some people. But that is rather rare, and the results are not comparable. We have successfully treated many clients here at the studio who had already tried a whole collection of devices before. Sensible, effective devices cost far more than these home devices. Creams only work temporarily because they leave the hair root intact. So you have to treat again and again and get strong skin irritation every time.

You pay per session; the price depends on the body area and the effort involved: for example €39–49 for the upper lip, €59–79 for the underarms or the bikini area, €149–169 for the full legs and €259–429 for the whole body. All prices include 19% VAT.

For complete hair removal, about 6–10 sessions are usually enough, depending on the body area. We don’t offer complete packages or subscriptions – you pay per session. If you pay for several sessions in advance, you save 10–20%. We set the exact price in the free initial consultation. You can find all prices at a glance on our prices page.

Yes. Besides the bikini area, complete hair removal in the intimate area is also possible – for women and men. A session costs €59–79 for the bikini area and €89–109 for the complete intimate area. We answer all your questions about this in the free initial consultation.
